A position on the specialist register with both the General Medical Council and General Dental Council highlights the dedicated skills Mr Mitsimponas offers, as a consultant oral & maxillofacial surgeon.
Initially qualifying in medicine and dentistry in Greece, Mr Mitsimponas came to the UK for specialist training. Gaining experience in leading centres, including Barts & The Royal London.
Further training followed at one of Europe’s most prestigious centres for oral & maxillofacial surgery, the University Hospital of Erlangen in Nuremberg. A facility where Mr Mitsimponas went on to work as a specialist.
In tandem with this, he studied at The University of Edinburgh, obtaining an MSc in surgical sciences with distinction. Along with an MSc in stem cells and regeneration, awarded by The University of Bristol.
Mr Mitsimponas’s particular interests include trauma, head, neck, or skin cancer surgery, reconstructive and salivary gland surgery. Within these areas, Mr Mitsimponas brings experience of orthognathic and dentoalveolar surgery, along with implantology.
Our patients are well served by his knowledge of the jaw and bone metabolism. For temporomandibular joint disorders, osteonecrosis of the jaw, bone grafts for implantology and complex reconstructive needs.
The contribution Mr Mitsimponas has made to leading clinical research projects is equally valuable. As are his publications in peer reviewed journals on oral health, tissue adhesives and experimental pathology.
Alongside serving as a Consultant at the Royal Free in London, Mr Mitsimponas presents at national and international conferences. Also contributing to bodies such as The British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Developing his profession matters to Mr Mitsimponas, to contribute to training other surgeons. The passion behind his work still comes from the sometimes life changing benefits he can offer to patients.
