Mr Cooper is a dual-qualified dental and medical professional with extensive experience in oral surgery. Known for his calm and gentle approach, he provides expert solutions for a wide range of dental and oral concerns, treating each patient as an individual and ensuring comfort, safety, and clarity throughout their care.
Mr Cooper qualified in dentistry at the University of Birmingham before completing his medical degree at King’s College London. Following this, he undertook extensive surgical training, specialising in oral surgery and oral medicine. His NHS career has included roles as Consultant Oral Surgeon at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, Oral and Maxillofacial Specialist Doctor at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, Divisional Medical Director at Princess Alexandra Hospital, and Dental Core Training Programme Director for NHS England – East of England.
Mr Cooper’s clinical expertise encompasses all aspects of oral surgery, including surgical removal of wisdom teeth, complex extractions, jaw surgery, bone grafting, cyst and tumour removal, and treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. He also manages facial pain, bruxism, and soft tissue oral medicine conditions such as oral ulcers, lichen planus, and burning mouth syndrome. His approach is tailored to each patient, with the ability to offer all forms of anaesthesia in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
As an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, Mr Cooper is committed to advancing dental education and professional development. He designs and delivers national and international CPD courses for dentists and oral surgeons, including hands-on surgical training and clinical skills programmes. His leadership as Dental Core Training Programme Director ensures high standards in postgraduate education, recruitment, and trainee development, and he plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of oral surgeons through ARCP panels, journal reviewing, and curriculum oversight.
Research & Teaching
Mr Cooper is deeply committed to advancing dental education and professional development. In addition to his clinical work, he designs and delivers a wide range of continuing professional development (CPD) courses for dentists and oral surgeons, including hands-on surgical training and clinical skills programmes delivered nationally and internationally.
As Dental Core Training Programme Director for the East of England, he oversees postgraduate training, recruitment and the professional development of junior clinicians, helping to maintain high standards of education and clinical practice across the specialty. He also contributes to ARCP panels, national recruitment processes and academic peer review, playing an active role in shaping the future of dental training.
Through these roles, Mr Cooper ensures his own clinical practice remains aligned with the latest evidence-based techniques and innovations in oral surgery, allowing him to deliver the highest standards of care to his patients.
