Professor Afshin Mosahebi

MBBS, FRCS, FRCS(plast), PhD, MBA GMC no: 4067137

Professor Mosahebi is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, with notable experience in complex microsurgical reconstruction. This can be following trauma, cancer, other conditions, or as part of aesthetic facial surgery.

A council member for the Royal Society of Medicine and British Association of Aesthetic Plastic surgeons, Professor Mosahebi leads his profession. Serving as a member of the UK Specialist Advisory Committee on Plastic Surgery.

Alongside his own work with patients, Professor Mosahebi heads one the largest plastic surgery teaching units, at The Royal Free Hospital. His wish to develop skills in other surgeons is matched by an interest in research.

A member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons research council, Professor Mosahebi is involved in pioneering work. Currently on regenerating tissue through emerging biomaterials and tissue engineering.

His career began by studying at Guy’s & St Thomas Medical School, part of the University of London. After graduating in 1994, wide medical experience followed, although his interest in and talent for aesthetic surgery led the way.

Specialist plastic surgery training came next, in leading UK hospitals and at London Deanery. Further time was then spent developing skills in reconstructive surgery, in New York and mainland Europe.

Throughout this time, Professor Mosahebi pursued a belief that each patient is unique. In terms of their medical history and physiology but also as a person, the way they feel about treatment, their wishes for the future.

He does not believe there is such a thing as a standard operation, preferring to take time to discuss options with patients and offer a tailored outcome. A philosophy he encourages across the field of medicine.

He entered the UK Specialist Register for Plastic surgery in 2008 and continued to extend understanding of his profession. From providing expert commentary on TV, to lecturing at international conferences.

Being well published and editing specialist publications helps Professor Mosahebi continue to share his view. That good surgery is based on skill, knowledge and above all, a view that people deserve unique solutions.
