Mr Newman initially qualified at the University of London. A number of years specialist training and experience came next, before admittance to the GMC’s Specialist Register for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1997.
Consultancy posts followed at University College London Hospitals, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and The Queen Victoria Hospital.
During this time, Mr Newman served as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of London and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Brighton & Sussex Medical School.
Other significant positions include Chairman of the Court of Examiners for the Intercollegiate Specialist Examination in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the RCS, where Mr Newman was an examiner for 20 years.
He was a member of the NICE Clinical Guideline Committee contributing to guidance on head and neck cancers. Also Chair of the Kent Regional Head & Neck Cancer MDT, from 2016 to 2024.
Medicolegal Work
Mr Newman’s reputation for patient care, academic excellence and good communication now see him leading his profession in another way.
Alongside his extensive qualifications in medicine and dentistry, Mr Newman obtained an LLM Master of Laws degree in 2010, at the University of Cardiff.
He continues to attend specialist surgical and medicolegal meetings. Maintaining current knowledge, to tie in with his substantial experience of supporting legal needs.
This includes the preparation of several hundred expert reports for claimant, or defendant and appearing as an expert witness, in the Civil & Coronial Courts.
Mr Newman remains a registered, licensed medical practitioner, on the GMC specialist list. His primary focus now is providing expert input, to assist the legal profession and their clients.
